Someone in a Patriot hit my car and a Fiesta in my apartment parking lot about an hour ago. I just moved in this afternoon, too. I was in my apartment with headphones on when I heard the incident. I went down to investigate and found this:

Kinja'd!!!

The Forester was moved about a foot; the steering wheel turned, too. (It was on center when I parked) The damage isn’t terrible, but I’m expecting the damage is at least ~$2,500, more if steering or suspension is involved. Not sure what his damage was; a black car at night is hard to inspect.

Kinja'd!!!

Luckily, the guy was nice enough to stay and give his info. I’m not sure he would have if I hadn’t gone down to investigate. Now to wait for daylight for a better look. A flashlight inspection revealed that no fluids appear to be leaking, at least.

Kinja'd!!!

I have no idea who the owner of the Fiesta is, but the driver of the Patriot did leave his information on the windshield. No one was injured, so it could have been worse.

Shit man, that really sucks. At least you got their information down. Any idea why they crashed?

I’d say that’s an easy $2-$3,000 worth of work there.

Sorry it happened though, glad the guy stayed around.

That sucks, that was a real stand-up move for the guy to stay around.

I’m guessing inattention. Guy was in his ‘30s dropping off his brother(I’m guessing)? It probably didn’t help that the street light on that end is not working, not that it’s an excuse.

(I just moved in today, and had no idea that the street light wasn’t working).

I’m uneasy about the wheel being turned that much, and how much my car moved.

The guy seemed nice enough, but you do have to wonder if he would have left his info had I not showed up...

I don’t think I’ve ever moved as fast as when I saw my car get hit from my office window. Trying to get that paid for was the worst. They first tried arguing that I couldn’t have been legally parked, then tried to claim that I couldn’t count as a witness (despite that I had photos of the offending vehicle still in contact with my car) and then tried to claim that without an accident report my claim was invalid (police don’t have jurisdiction over noninjury incidents in private parking lots). Ugh. Take a gazillion photos, just in case.

I’m not even going to question how someone hit TWO parked vehicles somewhere with a likely speed limit of 10. That's absurd.

I do applaude him for that. I do wonder if he would have left info had I not showed up, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. I’m just happy it worked out, and that he had valid, current insurance.

I’d say about $500 for the quarter panel, another $600 or so for paint.

$800 for the front bumper, $500 or so for paint.

The plastic thing seems fine from the pictures, correct me if I’m wrong.

That sounds like an ordeal. It’s a sickening feeling, realizing that it’s your car involved.

I got some pictures tonight, and will get more tomorrow when I can actually see what I’m looking at. I haven’t moved it yet, either.

Absolute miracle your headlight didn’t explode since they tend to do that if you look at them cross and cost an arm and a leg for no reason anybody can discern.

Probably fairly accurate. I’ll update with the estimate when I get it. The plastic piece which I believe you are referring to (by the fog lights?) is part of the front bumper cover.

Wheel well liner is also trashed, but that’s ~$40.

On closer inspection, the car moved about 4-6 inches (I originally said a foot). Any damage caused by that (steering mainly) will add cost.

I’m really not sure how it survived. The fender is bent around it, and it doesn’t even appear chipped (from what I can tell). The washer bottle seems intact, too.

Well those won’t look good or fit on my car but when mine inevitably bust I’m fitting a pair of those on lol.

If you can find a good body shop, you’ll never even know it happened.

It must be the rally heritage. Can’t have headlights that are easy to break!

That’s what I figure. My uncle had an 09 like mine that was rear-ended at a traffic light. You couldn’t tell anything happened to it when they were done.

I know a few good body shops, so it shouldn’t really be an issue.

Yeah, hopefully the Patriot’s insurance is more cooperative. It was 4 months of hell until my car was fixed and 8 months until I was fully reimbursed. Something about me not being IN the car made everything an argument.

May I ask which insurance companies you were dealing with? I’m with Allstate, Patriot’s with State Farm.

When I was rear ended at full speed, their insurance company claimed I hit them. You know, from in front of them, like magic. Holy fuck.

He seemed alright enough, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt (still glad I went out almost immediately). However, you just don’t know with people these days, especially in parking lot incidents.

My family (parents) have had Allstate for at least 20 years. It’s worked out so far, and this isn’t the first incident (on either side of fault).

I’ll be updating as things move along.

When I was 17, someone smashed the door on my Integra while I was bowling. They actually left a note and their information! At the time I thought that most people did that. Nope. In numerous incidents since then, not one person has left a note. Including the fat lady that smashed my wife’s mirror while trying to parallel park. She floored it afterwards and was gone.

Most people suck. However, occasionally you actually find a decent person. I was lucky tonight.

I hope the driver of the other car he hit figures out that Patriot left his information on it. I was going to inform the driver myself before they left (neither of us had any idea who they were), but they left before I could get down and talk to them. They seemed a bit oblivious to everything.

I have State Farm, they were fantastic with the whole ordeal. And I was hit in my old car by someone with Allstate, and they were also pretty cool. Guy who hit my current car was a contractor with some local insurance company — Keller-Lowry? Hopefully it all goes smoothly for you.

Glad to hear. I hope it goes smoothly, too.

The contractor with the local insurance was the same incident that took 8 months to resolve, correct?
